How To 'Borrow'

How do I hire a dress?

1. Browse our collection of items

2. Click the calendar on your preferred item and ensure your date is available.

3. For local customers, you can book a "browse & borrow " try-on appointment in our showroom to guarantee a perfect fit.

4. We offer shipping to all UK customers if you are not local or prefer your rental to be delivered, choose shipping at checkout. Please make sure to read the rental agreement & cancellation policy before checking out. Please note we do not offer refunds only store credit. Unless there is/was a mistake on our part.

5. For customers who select "pick up and drop off," please arrange a time to collect/return your rental via email

Our usual showroom opening times are 9:30AM-5:30PM (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri) 10:00AM - 7:00PM (Thurs) 

(Sat) times vary please contact us

Please let us know an ETA regardless of what day.

How long are hires, and what dates should I select?

Our minimum rental period is 3 days, and our maximum rental period is 30 days (longer times may be arranged upon request). Apart from some items which allow a 48hour booking period.

For postal orders only: Please return your item on the last day of your rental.

Example booking over a weekend: For a 3 day rental if you have an event on Saturday, you should start your rental period on Friday, and it will end on Sunday. This means that for postal orders, they will arrive by Friday (at the latest), and if you are unable to use a parcelshop or a Royal Mail parcel box you will need to posy your order by Monday morning (all postal orders come with a returns label, if you do not have one please email to recieve your pre-paid label)

For customers who choose pickup or drop-off as their shipping method, you will pick up your order on the first day of rental period and return it by the last day to our showroom. We are open on Saturday, please arrange a time via or Instagram messages @borrowedfrom__

What if my rental date ends on a Sunday?

For postal return orders if your end date ends on a Sunday you will be given an Evri label. If your parcel shop is unable to accept parcels please notify us at

For drop off our showroom is closed on Sunday's but you can drop off your rental to the concierge. Please follow instructions above.

When booking please consider if having you rental end date on a Sunday is possible for you, as it's better to be safe and add on extra days than be charged a late fee.

What do I do if I need to collect out of hours?

If you are unable to make it within our opening times, please return it to the Battersea Reach Concierge: Juniper Drive, London SW18 1GJ - if you need help locating this please email: for instructions.

The item must be in a secure bag or box with the following on it: Borrowed From, Unit 21A Spinnaker House

Please alert us once it's been dropped off.

How does "Browse & Borrow" Try-on Appointments work?

Borrowed From understands that everyone has a unique style, shape, event, and size, so we offer personalised try-ons by appointment at our showroom to ensure you find the perfect outfit for your occasion.

Once you've found the item(s) you’d like to try on (we suggest 1-3), you can make an appointment online, come visit us at the showroom, and we will help guide you through the collection and find the ultimate outfit for your event.

We always recommend bringing any underwear you think you'll be wearing on the day to ensure a comfortable fit.

After we find the perfect option, we can secure the date and finalise payment at the showroom or you can make the booking in your own time.

How do I secure an item for my try-on appointment?

While we do our best to accommodate our weekly hires so that you have as many options as possible for your try-on appointment, please keep in mind that not all garments will be available on any given day.

If you have your heart set on any particular for your try-on appointment, we suggest you do two things:

1. Mention this at the time of booking. We will take note and try our best to ensure it's available for your appointment. If it's out on hire (or gets a last-minute booking), we'll try to notify you; however, customers are advised to check the calendar for the dress they want online to see if it's available.

2. If you don't want to take the risk to ensure its availability, we suggest you hire it for the event date prior to your try-on appointment. If you decide not to go ahead with the dress at your try-on appointment, we'll offer you store credit for another booking.

We recommend visiting the showroom with plenty of time before the desired date to ensure that all of your options are still available and that the date is not already booked. Of course we are always here to help with those last minute panic finds.  

It's the week of my event; have I left it too late to hire or try on?

For local customers, definitely not! We often have customers looking for a last minute outfit. You are welcome to book at the last minute. Try on an appointment and browse through our available dresses.

Please note that if your order must be shipped, you must order at least 2 business days prior to the event to ensure your parcel arrives in time. Borrowed From does not accept responsibility for orders that arrive late if they are posted after the postal timeframe. Borrowed From is not responsible for orders that don't arrive on time if they are placed after this date.

We do not offer a next day delivery option, if you have left it last minute please make sure to select this at checkout, if we are unable to fulfil your booking we will notify you and process a refund.  

What will happen at my try-on appointment?

Once you've confirmed your appointment, you'll receive an email reminder 72 hours prior.

We will have your pre-selected items and a member of our team ready to help if you need it. We hope you find the perfect rental!

We will then confirm your event date and finalise payment in the showroom, so it’s all yours!


I live in London; can I pick it up instead of paying for shipping?


Your order will be ready for pickup on the first day of your rental period, and you must drop it back by the last day of your rental period - unless an alternative time has been arranged.


I don't live in London; can I still hire?

Absolutely! Borrowed From ships via Royal Mail & Evri Post throughout the United Kingdom. You will receive a returns label in your package to ship your item back with.

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer try-ons for postal orders. However if your rental does not fit, send it back within 24 hours and we will refund you with store credit if it's unworn.


What happens if I damage or ruin a dress while renting it?

We understand that accidents happen, but it is your responsibility to notify Borrowed From if anything happens to your item while it is on hire.

If your item is damaged but can be repaired (wine spill, split of fabric), you will be charged the recovery fees. Unless you added on our 'Accidental Damage Protection' during checkout - then you are all covered.

If your item is damaged beyond repair, you must pay the full retail price.

If your item is damaged but repairable with general dry cleaning, you will not be charged any additional fees.

Please make sure your return package is secure, if your box is damaged please do not use it. If you do not have a bag or box to use we will refund you the cost of a new one. This is to prevent any items getting lost or falling out of the packaging whilst it is on it's way back to us. If an item is lost in the post due to unsecured packaging you will be liable to pay the replacement value.

Can I get a refund? (Rental Orders)

Please be cautious when making a purchase on Borrowed From; we do not offer refunds on any orders. If you have made a mistake or changed your mind on an order, we will offer you a store credit equal to the value of your hire, which can be used on an alternate booking. Borrowed From credits will be valid for 12 months.

Please keep in mind that you can only get store credits for pick-up orders if you contact Borrowed at least 48 hours before your event.

If your event is cancelled or you wish to change your rental date, we cannot change the booking within 48 hours of the rental date.


What happens if I don't post the dress back on the last day of the hire period?

It is crucial that postal orders are returned in a timely manner. Each day a rental is not returned after the end of the hire period, you will be charged a £30 late fee. If your late return also interferes with another order, you will also be charged a second hire fee to cover the costs associated with that order. At check-out, your information is collected for security reasons, and you will be charged accordingly. Please note your are agreeing to a legal rental agreement, if we are unable to collect outstanding fees in a timely & manner, we will file a claim against you.


What are your opening dates?

Monday through Friday, by appointment only. You can book an appointment on our website at any time. You can request a weekend visit we will do our best to make this happen.

What happens if my chosen item doesn’t fit me?

Please contact us. If the item does not fit you or you don’t feel amazing in it, we can offer you a full credit against the order once it is returned unworn within 24 hours. You can use your store credit to borrow another item at a later date.


Do I need to wash the item(s) I have borrowed?

No need! We take care of the cleaning and dry cleaning.


How are items cleaned?

We get each item dry-cleaned at a local small business after each rental.

I want to buy this item; is this possible?

Some items we offer purchase, please get in touch so we can arrange a transaction.


Do you ship outside of the UK?

We ship UK-wide and do not currently ship rentals elsewhere.

Our pre-loved items can be posted worldwide.  

What happens if my order is late?

Please make sure to place your order in plenty of time before you need it. We need a minimum of 2 working days to process your order; please keep this in mind once we have handed over your order to our shipping provider; unfortunately, it is out of our control. We will always make sure to send your chosen item on time, we will track the delivery for you, and we will help where possible, but we cannot take blame for any delays experienced by our shipping providers. We hope you can understand this. In some circumstances, we can offer you full credit against your order, but we cannot offer a refund if the delay was the fault of the shipping provider.
